WINTER EVENTS
Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Come join the tradition and ring in the Christmas Season at the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony. Caroling, lighting of City Hall, and an appearance by Santa Claus are the evenings highlights. The ceremony takes place on the first Wednesday of December at 7:00 p.m. in front of City Hall. A holiday program at the Eastpointe Community Center (16435 E. Eight Mile) follows the ceremony, and includes visits with Santa, refreshments, and entertainment.
Mother/Son Magical Date Night
A new program where moms and their sons (aged 4 - 12) can spend a fun-filled evening of food and entertainment. All will surely enjoy the magic provided by master magician Jasen Magic. Usually held the end of October from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Eastpointe Community Center. Tickets are
$10.00 per person and are available pre-sale only. There is a limited amount of space available, and registration is required. For reservations call 445-5080 at the end of September.
Lunch With Santa
On the first Saturday of December from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Santa Claus will be at the Community Center to have lunch with the good boys and girls of Eastpointe. One parent per family is welcome to join their children. Lunch and a picture with Santa are the highlights of the day. Cost:
$10.00 per person. Available pre-sale only. Reservations are required as there are a limited number of tickets available. To register, call 445-5080 at the beginning of November.
Daddy/Daughter Valentine's Dance
Girls aged 4 - 12 and their daddies are invited to attend the annual Valentine's Dance the weekend around Valentine's Day. Music, dancing, refreshments and a picture with daddy are the highlights of this fun-filled evening. Three dances will be held at the Community Center from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is
$10.00 per person, available pre-sale only. Reservations are required as there are a limited number of tickets available. To make reservations, call 445-5080 around the middle of January.

Bargain Hunters Paradise
First Saturday in June - 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Senior Center Parking Lot
(16600 Stephens Drive)
An annual event for garage and yard sale lovers, this event is held rain or shine. The Senior Center parking lot will be turned into a city-wide rummage sale. This is an excellent opportunity for Eastpointe residents to sell all those items they found during spring cleaning, and an opportunity for shoppers to find new treasures. To obtain booth space or for further information, please call the Senior Center at 445-5084.
Walk Michigan
The Eastpointe Parks and Recreation Department holds five "walks" to promote health and fitness during the summer months at Spindler Park (Stephens and I-94). Old, young, special needs, (no bicycles or motorized vehicles) are welcome to join in the one-mile walks. This program is co-sponsored by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association and Healthier Macomb Fitness Council. Call the Community Center for dates and times.
FREE MUSIC CONCERTS
Music in the Park
Music in the Park is a program that consists of outdoor concerts held Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. These "free" concerts take place at Spindler Park, which is located at Stephens Drive and I-94. All performances begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Sounds of the Big Band Era, Classic Rock, 1950's and 1960's Oldies, and Country Hits are some of the music styles that can be heard during these concerts. Concert goers may bring blankets and lawn chairs. The concessionaire is open during each and every performance. In case of inclement weather the concerts will be held indoors at the Eastpointe Community Center (16435 E. Eight Mile Rd.) For more information call 445-5084.
SPORT EVENTS
City-wide Jr. Olympics
What an opportunity for the young athletes of Eastpointe. Children ages 7 - 14 compete in seven track and field events. The champion in each age group in each event has the privilege of representing the City of Eastpointe at the State Youth Fitness Meet. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to experience the feeling of team work and to learn the importance of staying fit. The City Jr. Olympics is held mid-July.
2-ball Competition
McDonald's MBA 2-ball is an exciting basketball game played by a two-player team. Each team has one minute to score as many baskets as possible from any of the six shooting spots identified on the game court. Each shooting spot is worth a different point value based on the difficulty of the basket. At the end of the competition the team in each category of competition with the highest score advances to the next level of play. Pre-register at the Eastpointe Community Center. The games are open to kids ages 9 - 17 years old (based on the player's age on January 1). No varsity basketball players allowed.
Punt, Pass and Kick
The Eastpointe Parks and Recreation Department along with the Eastpointe Tiger Cats hosts a Punt, Pass and Kick competition in September. Girls and boys between the ages of 8 - 13 (as of December 31st) may come to Memorial Park to participate. Winners go on to regional competition for a chance to compete at the Pontiac Silverdome as part of a Detroit Lions game. There is no cost to participate, but pre-registration is mandatory. SENIOR CITIZEN FEATURES
Flu Shots
Once a year, from mid October - mid November, flu shots will be available
for Macomb County residents age 60 and older, at the Senior Center. Please
bring your Medicare Card, otherwise there is a $10.00 charge. This program
is sponsored by the Macomb County Health Department.
Tax Assistance
The Eastpointe Senior Center is a site for the A.A.R.P./I.R.S. Tax Assistance
Program. This free service is available to those age 60 or older and who
fall in the low to moderate income range. Every Tuesday from the end of
January through the middle of April from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteers
are available to assist with tax preparation. Please call 445-5084 to
set up an appointment.
Senior Newsletter
The Senior Activities Newsletter is printed at the beginning of each month. This newsletter is available for pick up at the Senior Center, Community Center, City Hall, and Eastpointe Memorial Library. Subscriptions are available at a yearly rate of
$5.00. To receive a complimentary issue of the newsletter, please call 445-5084.
Home Chore Service
The City of Eastpointe, in conjunction with the Macomb County Community Services Agency provides a Chores Program for senior citizens in the community. The goal of the program is to assist homeowners who are at least sixty years of age to maintain their homes. Typical jobs provided include, but are not limited to, snow removal, grass cutting, interior painting, gutter cleaning, wall washing and others. The program is targeted to senior citizens who have a limited or fixed income or are handicapped. To inquire about the program, contact the South Action Center at 759-9150.
