RESPONSIBILITIES
The Parks Maintenance Division is a highly active department with responsibilities
that extend well beyond the parks. From lawn maintenance and grass mowing
to flowerbeds and landscaping. The division maintains 20 baseball fields,
7 soccer fields, and the Memorial Park football field, and is also responsible
for the irrigation systems throughout the city in flowerbeds and at city
building sites. Division employees assist in setting up many community
events and festivals, including playing Santa's helpers, decorating the
city for Christmas. Parks Division employees also do building maintenance,
maintain and operate Kennedy Pool, and of course, maintain 7 beautiful
parks.

GREAT PART-TIME/SEASONAL JOBS
Here's the Nuts and Bolts of getting to work for the City, doing a variety
of work, and doing it with some really great people.
The City of Eastpointe is looking for seasonal workers for jobs in the
Parks Maintenance Division. Working with the full-time staff, seasonal
employees help maintain baseball fields, repair and improve parks, and
assist with landscaping and lawn maintenance. Learn how to safely operate
fun stuff like tractors and riding mowers, and how to use the right tool
for fixing and repairing all kinds of things.
- Must be at least 18 years old with Driver's License
- Work 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
- Flexible hours while still in school
- Some scheduled overtime available
- $7.75 - $9.00 per hour

STAFF
The Parks Division is made up of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, and
four full time Parks Maintenance employees, and the Tree Inspector, and
is supplemented by 13 seasonal employees during the busy summer season.
Operations are handled out of the Parks Garage located at 17850 Ten Mile
Rd.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Numerous accomplishments over this last year include:
- Adopt-A-Flowerbed Program expanded to include most of flowerbeds
on Kelly Road
- Projects with the assistance from the Community Kids Club from Oakwood
Middle School including:
- The Community Center landscape project
- Kennedy Park Cleanup
- Painting the Senior Center tennis practice wall
- Children's Garden construction in the DDA
- Painting the Memorial bleachers with volunteers from the Tiger Cats,
EDHS, city employees, and the mayor
- Completion of Memorial football field irrigation system

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Parks Division works with many community and athletic organizations
on volunteer projects that benefit everyone. These projects range from
rebuilding baseball fields to the building and planting of flowerbeds,
to painting the bleachers at athletic fields, to the cleaning and raking
of a neighborhood park.
If your organization or group, team or scout troop, or all the neighbors
and kids would like to volunteer, please contact the Parks Division. Lists
of projects are available and the Division is open to suggestions.

ADOPT-A-FLOWERBED PROGRAM
The City of Eastpointe Department of Parks & Recreation
plants and maintains numerous flowerbeds in parks, at city buildings,
and on Kelly and Gratiot medians. You, your family, civic or athletic
organization, school, or business can help with this beautification of
Eastpointe by adopting a flowerbed.
At a spring workshop, you will be given guidance, suggestions, and lots
of useful information to bring your colorful gardening ideas to life.
You don’t need a green thumb, only a desire to make Eastpointe alive with
color.

TREE SERVICE
The Public Works Division is responsible for the planting, trimming,
and removal of trees located within the City right-of-way. If the tree
is diseased or dying, the City will remove the tree and the remaining
stump. Tree trimming is generally done systematically a section at a time
throughout the City.
