03/11/2008 - POSSIBLE BUSINESS SCAM! The City of Eastpointe has received complaints from citizens that a company in Illinois claiming to be a national deed service may be scamming local residents. Apparently, the company is sending letters stating that the U.S. Government Federal Citizen Information Center web site is recommending that property owners have official or certified copies of their property deeds, and the company offers to provide official copies of deeds for a fee of $69.50. Please be advised that the City of Eastpointe is not aware of any law that would require property owners to possess an official or certified copy of their property deed. When a homeowner purchases property, the deed is normally recorded at the county register of deeds office and then returned to the homeowner. If a property owner loses his or her deed, the owner can obtain a copy from the City of Eastpointe Assessor's office for a fee of $1.00 or obtain a copy for a nominal fee from the county register of deeds office. 02/07/2008 - ARE YOU EXPERIENCING TRASH COLLECTION PROBLEMS?
