DONATIONS / MEMORIALS
The library encourages and
welcomes cash gifts, endowments and bequests for the purchase of
books, other library materials and equipment, or for improving the
library facilities.
The memorial gift program is
designed for those who wish to donate an item in memory of a loved
one. This contribution provides a living memorial and will be
appreciated by library users for many years to come. Donors may
select a topic of interest special to the person being remembered. A
bookplate is placed on the inside cover with the name of the person
being remembered as well as the name of the donor. An acknowledgment
is sent to the donor and the family of the person being honored.
The adopt-a-book program is an
expansion of the memorial gift program which recognizes important
events such as birthdays, anniversaries, or other happy occasions.
Donors may select a special topic of interest, and a bookplate
recognizing the event is placed on the inside of the book. An
acknowledgment is sent to the donor, as well as to the person being
honored.
A general library donation
fund has been established separate from the Library Fund operating
budget to encourage tax-deductible contributions. Under section 260
of the Michigan Income Tax Act, the Eastpointe Memorial Library is
qualified for tax credit status. An individual may be allowed a
maximum contribution credit against Michigan income tax at 50% of
the contribution... or 20% of the total state income tax (whichever
is less)... up to $100.00. A husband and wife filing jointly have a
maximum credit of $200.00. This fund is used to purchase those
larger equipment items that would not be possible within the
library's annual budget.
The Library also accepts gifts
of books, audiocassettes and National Geographic magazines. These
gifts may be added to the collection, or placed in the Friends of
the Library used book sale. All proceeds from this sale benefit the
library. The Library cannot place a monetary evaluation on such
gifts.
