Eastpointe Housing Commission
GENERAL INFORMATION Thank you for visiting our web site. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the many services provided through the Eastpointe Housing Commission. We would like your experience with our department to be a pleasant one, and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can. The five members of the Eastpointe Housing Commission are appointed by the City Manager for five-year terms. The Housing Director is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of, the Housing Commission. The Housing Commission is located at 15701 East Nine Mile Road, Eastpointe, Michigan 48021. Hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For any additional information not listed on these web pages, please call (586) 445-5099. The Eastpointe Housing Commission has played an important role in providing safe, sanitary, affordable housing for the lower income residents of the City of Eastpointe since its inception in 1964. Currently, the Housing Commission assists 335 senior citizens and families throughout Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. The commission administers 164 elderly housing units in two residential buildings and administers rental assistance in the private sector for 171 low income families through the Section 8 Housing Choice voucher program. The commission has maintained a "high performer" status under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) management standards since 1991. We are proud of the high quality housing services we provide to the public, and our motto is: "WE STRIVE TO BE THE HOUSING OF 'CHOICE', NOT NECESSITY."
Currently, the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is closed indefinitely, Please visit our website regularly for the latest updates on the status of availability of our programs. However, we continually maintain an "OPEN" status for our elderly low income housing program for those persons 50 years and older. For more information, please call (586) 445-5099. Applicants who need to UPDATE their application with address or name changes must do so IN WRITING. Application updates can be faxed to the Housing Commission at (586) 445-8097 OR E-mail to HousingCommiss@aol.com. Please include your old address, new address, old name/new name, AND social security number for reference. Changes in the number of persons in your household, phone numbers, or income do not need to be updated until the time that you are contacted by the Eastpointe Housing Commission for an interview.
